Finally, I present to you, my first example of circumscribing! The above is exactly what it looks like. Luckily for my friends at Reddit this is NOT circumcising. Anyhow, when gesture drawing, it is common to switch from the typical gesture which implies fluidity and motion, and apply circumscribing. Circumscription allows the user to get a more general grasp at the form, still holding a very gestural style, and then applying lines that wrap around the form. Form is everything with circumscribing. Circumscribing literally means that you are drawing a circle around something, and in this case, your something has a circular form. It allows the user to indicate the depth of a midsection, or limb, and oddly looks fantastic. I always find that my circumscribed sketches look far better than my gestures, especially when using conte chalk.

Moving along – and finally not saying “circumscribing” any longer – I want to take a moment to say once again that next Friday I will be launching something new and exciting that I will leak to Little Alice fans on Wednesday.

Ever,

Dylan
